U2 - Gloria

On this date in 1981, U2 released their seventh single, "Gloria". It was backed by a live version of "I Will Follow". The A side appeared on the band's second album, October. The single reached the #55 spot on the U.K. singles chart. It reached the #10 spot in their native Ireland. The Dublin, Ireland new wave band, of course, became a hugely successful mainstream rock act by the mid-'80's and is still going strong.
